Sweatcoin Review

The real reward for exercise is our health… but imagine being rewarded with goods and services too! That’s what Sweatcoin claims – but is this really the case, or too good to be true? We checked it out for you in this Sweatcoin review.

Sweatcoin Review feature image

When I first heard about Sweatcoin, I got just a little bit excited! An app that pays me to do what I would be doing anyway? That’s like passive income. Even better, it’s an app that pays you to work toward staying fit and healthy. Even better, anyone can use the app. Surely, this is a no-brainer, isn’t it?

My next thought was, “What’s the catch?” There must be one, mustn’t there? Which is why I decided to give it a whirl. Here’s all you need to know about Sweatcoint.

TLDR: Is Sweatcoin Worth Downloading?

The Sweatcoin app may be the most popular app in the world. It has more than 120 million users, and rewards them in Sweatcoins for each step they either walk or run.

You can’t exchange the Sweatcoins you receive for cash. Instead, you get access to a marketplace that offers a continually changing range of goods and services from some of the world’s biggest retailers and companies, in exchange for Sweatcoins.

You can choose from two plans – a Free Plan and a Premium Plan. The Premium Plan doubles your Sweatcoin earning potential.

Overall, Sweatcoin is a safe and fun way to earn cash from doing no more than walking. If you walk (or run) anyway, this is a wonderful way to earn passive income (though it won’t make you rich).

What is Sweatcoin?

Sweatcoin Progress Dashboard

Sweatcoin is an app that is true to its name – it pays you coins for building up a sweat. It claims to be the most downloaded app in around 60 countries, and currently boasts more than 120 million users to whom it has paid out more than 50 million Sweatcoins.

You know that Fitbit you wear, or the step counter you have on your phone? Think of Sweatcoin as the paying equivalent. That’s right – Sweatcoin rewards you for walking (or running). There are also other ways you can build up your Sweatcoin balance, too. I’ll discuss these a little later in this review.

How does Sweatcoin work?

Sweatcoin rewards you for every step you take outside your home. It does this by paying Sweatcoins into your Sweatcoin balance. This isn’t a digital currency – though it has launched a cryptocurrency that it imaginatively calls SWEAT.

To start earning Sweatcoins, you’ll need to download the app to your iPhone or Android phone (it also works with Apple Watch, which I don’t have). It would be nice for the app to integrate with other wearables, but at present this isn’t a feature. To be honest, this isn’t a major factor for me – my wearable monitors health factors like blood pressure and heart rate, and I carry my phone with me all the time, anyway.

Like all step-measuring apps, Sweatcoin tracks the number of steps you are making. It then converts these at a rate of 1 Sweatcoin for every 1,000 steps taken, though it does retain 0.05 Sweatcoins as ‘commission’. Therefore, you’ll need to walk around 1,060 steps to earn one Sweatcoin.

How Much Money Can You Make with Sweatcoin?

Here’s where things get a little complicated, because Sweatcoin has no financial value. You cannot exchange Sweatcoin for cash, and neither can you buy Sweatcoin with cash. You ‘buy’ Sweatcoin with steps.

So, how do you earn from Sweatcoin? You can spend your Sweatcoin on a range of products and services offered in the Sweatcoin marketplace. These include iPhones, high-tech shoes, yoga classes, Apple watches, fashion items, Gusto offers, gift cards, and more.

Sweatcoin has partnered with more than 600 brands and organisations – governments, health organisations, retailers, and others who want to connect with health-conscious audiences. While many of these make their products and services available in the Sweatcoin marketplace, other partnerships, like the one with the NHS, actively help Sweatcoin to deliver its primary goal – to encourage people to be healthier and achieve higher levels of fitness among the general population.

While there is no monetary value on Sweatcoins, as a rough guide, you’ll need around 20,000 Sweatcoins to ‘buy’ an iPhone. That’s around 21 million steps. You’ll need to walk 10,000 steps every day for more than five years to hit this mark!

The offers available in the Sweatcoin marketplace change regularly, so there’s always something new to consider.

Making Purchases in the Sweatcoin Marketplace

At the bottom of the app, you’ll find the marketplace tab. Click on this to see the current offers. Explore these and:

  • If you see something you like, click on the offer link to learn more.
  • If you wish to take the offer, click on the ‘Buy’ button.
  • You’ll receive a purchase receipt.
  • Follow the instructions to complete your purchase directly with the brand.

Other Ways to Earn Sweatcoins

Sweatcoin Rewards Daily Prize Draw

Apart from walking or running, there are other ways to earn on the app:

· Daily Rewards

This is a straightforward way to boost your Sweatcoin balance. Each day, you’ll be offered ads to watch in the ‘Daily Bonus’ area of the app. Click on the ‘Try My Luck’ button, and watch an ad. You can watch up to three per day, with rewards going as high as 1,000 Sweatcoins.

Watch the ad in full, and hey presto! You’ve earned yourself a few extra Sweatcoins.

· 2x Boost

You can also double the Sweatcoins you earn for 20 minutes each day. All you need to do is:

  • Tap on the 2x Boost section in the app
  • Tap ‘Start 2x Boost
  • Walk or run as fast as you can for 20 minutes!

2x Boost is easy to use and, over time, can make a significant difference to your Sweatcoins balance.

· Invite Friends To Join Sweatcoin

You’ll earn five Sweatcoins for each friend referral that progresses to them becoming a member.

When you reach 30 successful referrals, you automatically become a ‘Sweatcoin Influencer’. This gives you access to the Influencer marketplace with even more cool offers to take advantage of – and you can also elect to get paid in PayPal (yes, in cash!).

· Take Part In Sweatcoin Races

A race is a calendar month-long challenge to complete a set goal (for example, 250,000 steps).

  • When you complete the race, you’ll receive bonus Sweatcoins
  • You can join a race at any time, with steps you have completed from the start date added to your total
  • Completing a race entitles you to a free entry into a prize draw
  • If you are a winner in the prize draw, you’ll be notified in your Sweatcoin balance and via email

Unlock Your Charitable Self with Sweatcoin

Sweatcoin Health Access Privacy

You don’t have to spend your Sweatcoins on Sweatcoin marketplace products. Instead, you could select a charity to donate your Sweatcoins to, turning your health into something even more positive for others. This is all done from the app, too:

  • Tap on the ‘Donate’ tab.
  • Scroll down to see current charitable campaigns.
  • Select the one you wish to learn more about.
  • Donate!

Is Sweatcoin Safe?

Online safety should always be a concern. Here’s what make me comfortable with Sweatcoin:

  • It’s a registered UK company, headquartered in London
  • It complies with GDPR
  • It does not share or sell your personal data to third parties, unless required by law or to enable its partnerships and business to function properly
  • All data you send is protected by encryption

Sweatcoin Subscription Plans

There are two plans available on Sweatcoin. The first is the basic (and free) plan. The second is the Premium (subscription) plan. The differences are summarised in the following table:

FeatureFree PlanPremium Plan
Sweatcoin Payment Rates0.95 Sweatcoin for every 1,000 stepsDouble Sweatcoin payments per 1,000 steps
Daily Earning Limit10 Sweatcoins per day100 Sweatcoins per day
Daily Steps Limit10,000Around 52,000
Other BenefitsAccess to Sweatcoin marketplaceAccess to Premium marketplace, with extra exclusive offersSweatcoin matches your Sweatcoins when you donate

The Premium Plan costs £4.99 per month, though if you pay annually, you will pay only £24.99 – effectively getting more than six months free.

Is It Worth Upgrading from Sweatcoin Free to Premium?

If you upgrade to Sweatcoin Premium, you can earn double the number of Sweatcoins when walking or running. In addition:

  • You also have a huge increase in how many Sweatcoins you can earn. Sweatcoin says that this is unlimited, but then says that its ‘fair use policy’ limits earnings to 100 Sweatcoins per day!
  • You get access to enhanced product and service offers, though you’ll find that gift cards and vouchers are snapped up quickly.
  • Donations to worthy causes are doubled, too.
  • A range of icons for the Sweatcoin app shortcut.

Overall, I would say that it’s only worth upgrading if you walk a lot – and by a lot, I mean more than 5,000 to 10,000 steps each day.

My Tips to Get the Most from Sweatcoin

Sweatcoin Set Daily Goal

There are some lessons I’ve learned about using Sweatcoin. Here are my tops tips to make sure you maximise the power of this app:

Be Consistent

Walk or run regularly. You’ll feel fitter, be healthier, and earn more Sweatcoins.

Carry Your Phone Everywhere

Most people have their phone with them all the time. Don’t leave yours behind – and don’t forget to keep the app running.

Take Part in Daily Rewards

They’re easy, and you can watch ads while on the move. With three a day, it’s an uncomplicated way to earn Sweatcoins.

Use the 2x Boost

Don’t forget to turn on the 2x Boost, especially when you plan to walk fast.

Invite Your Friends

Take advantage of the extra Sweatcoins you can earn for referring your friends – work toward the 30-successful referral mark and get higher-quality offers.

Sweatcoin – The Final Walkthrough

You’re not going to earn a fortune just because you walk a lot. But this isn’t the main point of the app. Its purpose is to encourage you to get out there and walk or run. The fact that you can earn something while doing so is a bonus.

Ok, those earnings aren’t cash, but they can be exchanged for a wide variety of products and services.

It’s user friendly, easy to set up, and unless you decide to become a Premium Plan subscriber, it’s completely free. You earn for doing no more than you would be anyway. I try to walk 5 km to 10 km each day. That’s around 5,500 to 11,000 steps each day. I’d be mad not to have my phone in my pocket, racking up Sweatcoins while I’m walking, wouldn’t I?
